We are incredibly proud to announce that Dr. Sumeet Kumar Sinha has been honored with the 2025 Norman Medal<\/strong>, the oldest and most prestigious technical award from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The award recognizes the paper titled \u201cDisplacement-Based Design of Axially Loaded Piles for Seismic Loading and Liquefaction-Induced Downdrag,\u201d<\/strong> published in the Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering<\/em>. The paper was co-authored with Prof. Katerina Ziotopoulou and Prof. Emeritus Bruce Lloyd Kutter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Norman Medal is awarded to authors of a paper that makes a definitive contribution to engineering practice. The work proposes a novel design procedure to enhance the seismic resilience of axially loaded piles in liquefiable soils. The formal ceremony took place during the ASCE 2025 Convention in Seattle, USA.<\/strong><\/sub><\/mark><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

This achievement reflects our lab’s commitment to advancing geotechnical research and its practical application to global infrastructure challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
