Dr. SK Sinha Awarded with the 2025 ASCE Norman Medal

We are incredibly proud to announce that Dr. Sumeet Kumar Sinha has been honored with the 2025 Norman Medal, the oldest and most prestigious technical award from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).

The award recognizes the paper titled “Displacement-Based Design of Axially Loaded Piles for Seismic Loading and Liquefaction-Induced Downdrag,” published in the Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering. The paper was co-authored with Prof. Katerina Ziotopoulou and Prof. Emeritus Bruce Lloyd Kutter.

The Norman Medal is awarded to authors of a paper that makes a definitive contribution to engineering practice. The work proposes a novel design procedure to enhance the seismic resilience of axially loaded piles in liquefiable soils. The formal ceremony took place during the ASCE 2025 Convention in Seattle, USA.

This achievement reflects our lab’s commitment to advancing geotechnical research and its practical application to global infrastructure challenges.
